New Walk at Harvard Forest, Petersham, MA

Collecting area: We will be sticking to the Black Gum and Natural History Trails. Highlights include an old growth stand of Hemlock.
Harvard Forest is an educational and research forest. Along the trails, there are signs and plaques describing ongoing experiments and the results of land use and forestry practices over time.
Meeting place: Parking lot at the Fisher Museum.
Directions: The Harvard Forest is located in Petersham in north central Massachusetts.
From Boston - Points East: 70 miles west on Route 2 to exit 17, then three miles south (take a right off the exit) on Route 32. Harvard Forest is on the left.
From Worcester: 25 miles north west on Route 122 and then 3 miles north of Petersham Center on Route 32. Harvard Forest is on the right.
From Points South and West: Take Interstate 91 to Greenfield and travel east on Route 2 approximately 25 miles to Exit 17. The Forest is 3 miles south (right off of exit) on Route 32. Harvard Forest is on the left.

Please consider staying to see the Fisher Museum which is free to the public (please donate though!) and open from 12-4pm on Sunday. The museum showcases many detailed and majestic dioramas illustrating two hundred years of land use and forestry practices in New England. The dioramas are objects of high craftsmanship on par with the glass flowers at the Harvard Museum of Natural History - don't miss them! Check out the Fisher Museum site for more information.
