Lactarius volemus (Fr.) Fr.

Other names:

Description:

This is one of the easily recognizable Lactarius with that special color of orange and the dry surface with the usually copious white sticky latex. Notice that the gills are close together and that they bruise where handled or knocked. The stem is the same color as the cap. Compare this with Lactarius hygrophoroides, which has thicker, more widely-spaced gills that do not bruise.
