Cortinarius iodes Berk. & Curt.

Other names:

Description:

This common cortinarius in our area is recognizable for the purple cap with the spots and streaks of yellow. Sometimes the yellow spots can be pretty faint or few. When young, the cap can appear a deep solid purple and be quite slimy. The slender stem usually sports the remnants of the cortina, covered with the rusty colored spores.
